Where are my to-do list mommas?

Usually I see moms in one of two camps.

#1 - You put things on your to-list that you’ve already completed just to be able to check them off.

Or…

#2 you don’t write anything down at all and are simply “winging it.”

The majority of the time, no matter which camp you are in there is still a sense of overwhelm.

As moms, our minds are CONSTANTLY moving and we are responsible for so many things. So if you are in camp #1, your to-do list is massive, never-ending, and overwhelming. And if you are in camp #2, you are constantly on the last minute train or forgetting things all together. Neither one of these provides a sense of calm, confidence, or ease and I quickly realized that was not how I wanted to live my life. So I discovered the Power of a Top 3!

Let's start with those of you in camp #2. I’m sorry but this is not a way to live. You will live in a constant state of overwhelm if you don’t start to organize all the things going through your mind. So you need to start a task list. And if you get the hang of that, you will end of in camp #1 and we are going to work through how to get out of that camp!

Long to-do lists don’t get us anywhere either. They often interfere with a sense of accomplishment because they are never ending and you are usually wasting time evaluating the list and checking off the simply things because that feels easier.

Enter the Top 3!

This is a simple, yet powerful way to prioritize what matters most. And the point of a Top 3 is to prioritize the items on your lists and turn them into appointments.

Put It Into Practice

Grab your lists! Whether you have one list or multiple such as a task list, project list, goal list, etc.
Ask yourself, “Even if tomorrow goes completely out of control, what are the 3 things I want to make sure I complete?”
Now let’s take those three things and add them to our planner. You need to define “when” you will complete those three items. Think them through and place them in your day for what works for you. For me, its usually first thing in the morning and (hopefully) before my kiddos wake up but it really depends what the item is and what my schedule looks like. I might empty the dishwasher before my kids wake up and drop off a bag of clothes for donation on my lunch break.

Once you start using the Top 3 Method, I guarantee you will begin to experience a greater sense of fulfillment at the end of the day. Because instead of laying down and thinking “oh shit I forgot” or I didn’t get through much of my task list… you’ll think “I accomplished my Top 3” and that’s what I set out to do – it was a good day!

The Top 3 Method has made a tremendous impact on my mental health and productivity and I think it will help you too.
