We all have the same 24 hours in a day. The difference between successful and unsuccessful people… how they spend that time. If you are feeling stuck, scattered, or unsatisfied, lets start taking action to change that!
5 Ways to STOP Wasting Your Time
1. Identify what you are wasting your time on
Its time to take an honest look at how you are spending your time. Make a list of all the things you know are a huge distraction. I know your phone is on that list! Maybe its Facebook, TikTok (damn that app can really take you down a rabbit hole!), or the snooze button. Whatever it is, lets identify it. Understanding your time-wasters will help you to notice when you are starting to slide down the hill so you can make a change!
2. Make a Daily To-Do List
Do you love a good to-do list? I see these going two different ways. Either you have a list that is a thousand items long or you have a no list and you fly by the seat of your pants. A long list causes you to feel overwhelmed and like you never get enough done or maybe not the right things done. No list can cause you to do nothing because you aren’t sure what needs to happen or forget things because your brain is simply on overload with motherhood.
So lets write all the things down but that needs to serve as your master list and not your daily to-do list. So each morning or night before, I want you to take that master list and choose the 3 things that you can realistically complete and would be the most beneficial to be off the list. Those are the things you focus on for the day! Do not, I repeat do not, go back to your master list until those 3 items are complete!
3. Do something productive while doing everyday tasks.
Now lets be clear, I do not believe is multitasking most of the time but that means multitasking with two tasks that both need your brain. When you are doing thoughtless everyday tasks, combine them with something more brain stimulating. So if I’m folding laundry, I’m also listening to a podcast. If I’m driving to work, I have an audiobook playing. But if I’m writing this blog, I’m not listening to anything else because its not possible for your brain to do both at once. So find a book you’ve been wanting to read, grab those headphones and get that laundry folded! This can help you feel like you were able to enjoy a book without actually having to find the time to physically flip those pages.
4. Do the hard stuff first.
Have you read the book Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy? The idea is that if you can start your morning by eating a live frog, you’d have tackled the worst thing that can happen that day. Your frog is your most crucial task – what you’re most likely to defer, yet can create the biggest impact on your outcomes. If you do that, you’ll feel more accomplished, satisfied, and happy. If you’ve been putting off recording a podcast or catching up on laundry, you need to do that first thing.
5. All of Your Time Counts
You’ve got a free 15-minutes before you have to run out the door. Time to mindlessly scroll Facebook, right? You might be surprised by what you can get done in that amount of time. I can schedule a week of social media posts in my Facebook group in 15 minutes. I can put away a load of laundry, wipe down my bathroom counters, and wash the baby bottles in 15 minutes! Seriously, a lot can happen if you know what actually needs to be done and you take advantage of the time you have!
So we all have the same 24 hours. Sure its easier to press play and binge some Netflix while being curled up in a blanket. Relax when you need to but be honest with yourself about it. Does your body and brain need a break or are you procrastinating?
If you have big goals, you need to work on them. Its time to take the right steps that will lead you towards the life you’ll be excited about.
